Introduction
Last week, you heard my friend Emily describe her encounter with a man on an airplane. If you want to hear that one of a kind story again, click the link below! Emilys story contains one of those life lessons that reminds us all we really shouldn't judge a book by it’s cover ( especially if its a guy).
Audio Story Topic
My audio story topic is ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover’. I am going to interview a couple people who have had some experience in this department and share their advice on this blog in the coming weeks.
Characters and Experts
As a reminder, Emily is one of my closest friends here at High Point University. A few months ago she met her 'mystery man' while on an airplane flying back home to Maryland from Florida. Normally people don't like having a middle seat on an airplane. Luckily for Emily, her seat assignment gave her the opportunity to meet the guy of her dreams.... or so she thought.

The first person Im gong to interview is my friend Gina. She is a junior at High Point University. Gina has had some experience with this topic and has been fooled by a guy she thought was perfect for her as well. I thought she could explain why Emilys mystery man may not have revealed everything about himself on the airplane, like his age. Gina is majoring in Studio Art and Communications with hopes to one day design graphics for Walt Disney World. Her hobbies included playing the piano and violin and dancing in her free time. She is also a member in Kappa Delta Sorority on campus.
Expert #2
The second person Im going to interview is Jeff D. He is the CEO of a financial services firm with offices in Minneapolis, New York, Geneva (Switzerland) and Copenhagen (Denmark). Jeff has a large global team of employee’s and has lots of hiring experience where he tries to assess people’s skills and potential when deciding to hire or not. I thought he could shed some light on my Audio story topic. When Jeff is outside the office, he loves to play golf and watch Fox News and travel around the world with his family.
Music
Music really adds a nice element for capturing your story. You want to find music that gets your listeners on the edge of their seat, eager to know what comes next!
The song "When I Was Young" by Raina Rose describes how a young woman was almost invisible to the man she had feelings for. I thought this song really described Emilys story and how people aren't always who they say they are.
The HPU Petal Points: Mr. RipChord
My second song somewhat of an original song with no instruments. I know what your thinking, "Morgan, all songs have instruments so what are you trying to say?" Well, remember in my first blog how I mentioned Im part of an A cappella group? I know you've been dying to hear what our group sounds like and Im ready to give you that opportunity!
For Valentines Day, my acappella group sang a song for our friends ‘RipChord', the all-male acappella group at Elon University. We sang the song Mr. Sandman, but modified the lyrics a bit and used ‘Mr. RipChord’ instead of Mr. Sandman. The "bum bum bums" in the song I thought were very upbeat and appropriate to reflect the mood Emily was feeling when she first met her Mystery Man.
Foley
I have never created my own sound effect before, so this took a lot of time researching potential sound effects. I chose to create a sound effect that symbolized what Emily’s heart rate was doing when she reconnected with her mystery man, and then found out how old he really was. Her heart began to quickly beat faster as she heard his voice and pictured his face, but then we he told her how old he was, her heart sank. I used a pillow case to simulate a heart beating, I pulled the case apart with both hands till it made a snap or beating sound, and I varied the pace of my pulls and snaps to create the sound effect of a heart beat speeding up with excitement and then slowing down when enthusiasm fades and depression sinks in……poor Emily
Thanks for tuning in!! See you guys next week. Don't forget to leave a comment down below :)
