Introduction
This is the story of how my friend Emily met her dream man, or so she thought, on a plane ride home to Maryland from her spring break trip to Florida last year. This was not her average plane ride.
Process
Emily is one of my best friends, so I really enjoyed getting to interview her and hearing about this exciting one of a kind ‘almost in love’ story. Of course, Im excited to share it with all of you! In order to trim Emilys story from 5 minutes down to 1 minute, I went in waveform in Adobe Audition and used the razor tool to help reduce the duration of the audio clip. While I really enjoyed her raw and unedited version, I focused on preserving the real essence of her story while at the same time observing the targeted (approximately) one minute length. The marker tool allowed me to mark certain sections in the clip so I knew where to use the razor tool. The razor tool in Adobe Audition was really cool to work with and made it easy for me to delete parts of her audio clip that I did not think were that relevant to the real story. For example I removed bits about the airplane boarding process, and sections where Emily was talking to an older woman on her left side. I also edited out awkward pauses, for example when she would say "and" as well as "um”. Ultimately I was able keep the real message in her story alive but in an abridged version.
I felt the anecdote would be most powerful if I injected a reflection at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end. I used voice over technology to do this. In the first reflection I explained who I was interviewing and what my interview was going to be about. About half way through Emily's story, I added the second moment of reflection; reviewing for the listeners what they have heard so far, as well as a little teaser of what's to come. Finally, after the interview, I injected my final moment of reflection, telling the listeners why they listened to this audio and saying goodbye.
